Glow smoothie (banana-free)

I use to hate smoothies and smoothie bowls. But then I went to Bali and fell in love again. They are an easy way to pack so much nutritious food in one meal but they can often be not well digested. If you get a headache after maybe you put too many sweet fruits and not enough veggies? If you feel hungry after maybe add protein powder, soy yogurt or have eggs on the side? Here’s my go-to smoothie hack :

  1. Add an equal part of veggies and fruits: you’ll get even more nutrition that way. Spinach is the one that you can’t taste and blends well, beetroot is sweet, frozen cooked cauliflower for a creamy texture, zucchini in summer cooked and frozen or fresh for a creamy texture.

  2. Keep it simple: Don’t add too much of everything or you will get your digestion confused and will end up bloated.

  3. Add toppings to chew: If you drink your smoothie in one sitting you can be sure that you won’t be able to digest it properly as our enzyme start in the chewing process. So add cacao nibs, coconut flakes, nuts and seeds, granola, or crunchy fruits.

  4. Add protein and fats: Make sure to add a protein and or a source of fats such as peanut butter, almond butter, soy yogurt, silken tofu, or have boiled eggs on the side after it to get a complete meal and keep your blood sugar stable. That way you won’t feel sluggish.

It’s important to get some raw foods in our diet as we need these vitamins and nutrients. Smoothies are wonderful for that. So if you want to fight your grey-looking skin and get these peachy cheeks and smooth skin: Have this smoothie every day for a week and let me know how is your skin afterward.
